My Passion and Love for My Art...

These images take me back...

When I started this journey, I remember going through my stash of images and fabrics and being so excited about the idea of merging them together to create fabric collages. I wanted my art to be unique...a sense of beauty that was uniquely mine to share.

I had a vision that was clear...I couldn't wait to pull it all together.

When I look back over all the collages I have created, I am amazed at how God truly inspired and instilled in me the ability to create the art that I do. Up until that point, I had never used a sewing machine. Never created a collage, or had the interest to do so. When my mom passed on to Glory, the depression kicked in and after dealing with that for a time, I knew I had to emerge from that state. I knew that I had to emerge from it victoriously and when desperation sets in, it feels like "life or death!"

And hence wanting to LIVE..my art...my freedom from depression...and sadness began to take root.

Now here I am today...Creating Beauty as My Eyes See it...

I still have such a long way to go but from where I was to where I am...

the Journey has been worth every tear, late night, and burn from the hot glue gun...smiles.

What a wonderful year it has been.

Full of wonder, joy, sadness, and even some pains...but everything happens for a reason.

We can learn from all the happenings of the year in our lives. The key was to touch others and our loved ones in ways that made life make sense when it felt as if it didn't.

Hello friends,

I know it has been a long time since I have really been around in blog land. Please forgive me. I had to do some soul searching. My heart was aching and I was drowning in self-pity. Hurt and bruised from loosing people that I loved so dearly, I retreated into a shell of sorrow. To make matters the worse, someone dear to me decided not to be so dear towards me. Crushed my heart or so it felt. So as I sat in my pool of self-pity and pain, I began to do some soul searching.

I had to stop and think about life and what it meant to live it. I had to stop and think about my children and the love I have for them. I had to stop and think about the outpouring of love from my blog land friends in the many emails I received. I just had to stop, think....reflect. I decided to get up, get dressed, find my make up, fix my face, loose some weight and find my smile again. As I did these things, I noticed I began floating up...I could see light...I was rising from the bottom of my pool of self-pity.

Sometimes life isn't fair. Sometimes the loud voice you're looking for from God is actually a soft whisper...just enough to give you HOPE. Even when the world is turned upside down...there's HOPE. I decided then to dive into that HOPE and as I dove further; HOPE turned into PEACE. Now what would PEACE be without someone or something trying to still it away? As I saw that I was walking in PEACE, resurfaced ugly, pain, hurt, evil...pity. But No, I said to them all, NO!

No, No, No, NO!

And as they waged war against my heart, mind and soul...I fought back! I was not going back into self-pity...it's no fun there. I can't reach others there. It's lonely and I am way too cool to be "Lonely."

Smiles...

I felt I was missing something from my smile though. It wasn't full. What was it? I dove deeper...

My ART.

Oh my...how I've missed you. The feel of the fabrics in my hands. The delicacy of the lace. My girls from the past brought back to the here and now. The sound of my sewing machine...the cold feel of my gingher stainless steel scissors....oh just the thought of it all brings a SMILE.

A full Smile...

A dear friend tells me just about everyday...

A Night to Remember...

Hello to all my Blogland friends...

Just wanted to say hello and let you know I am still here.

I have been on a roller coaster ride of emotions over the past few weeks.

I have not had the opportunity to create anything as of late. My husband saw the stress I was under and the emotional toil I was in and decided to take me out on a special date on Friday night. Apparently, my DH had planned this night out for a week or so now (must have felt really bad for me...smiles). He made all the arrangements for our children to be watched for the evening and He wouldn't tell me where we were going the night of the event...total surprise for me. Turns out, our date was to a Night Club called Blue's Alley in DC.

As we walked to the club, my DH held my hand. Okay, this is big for him and I was quite tickled to say the least. When we arrived to the club (my first time), I found out who we were going to see. The performer for the night was Jonathan Butler! It was by reservation only and the tickets, I later found out were quite expensive and sold out (Go Steven!) We had a beautiful dinner by candlelight and the atmosphere was warm and romantic. Jonathan Butler was amazing as was his daughter who sang a few duets with her dad. At the end of the show, Mr. Butler autographed his latest CD that we purchased and allowed us to get a picture with him individually. My DH was a bit camera shy but took a photo with him anyway. He really wanted one with me and Mr. Butler so I was able to get a nice photo as well.

Don't know why I look so much bigger...must be the lighting (smiles)!

Didn't get a photo with my DH but we had such a wonderful time that the memory is forever imprinted in my heart and mind.
Thank you Steven for a wonderful evening and knowing that I needed time away from the stresses of life...

Gone Home...

So my grandmother (92) passed last night to go home. She was my mom's mom. I will be flying into Buffalo this week to pay my respects. I loved my grandmother, as you may recall she was the one that gave me my vintage sewing machine. We were close growing up. As an adult, as she became sicker, and not treating my mom so well (when she was ill), we kinda lost our closeness, although still bonded together (does that make sense?) Well now she too is gone and even though I know she lived a long life, the quality of her life towards the end wasn't the best for her. She was bed ridden for some time and cognitively starting to slip away.

I have mixed emotions hitting me this morning. My Maternal Grandmother, Mom and Uncle...all gone. I have one uncle (eldest) and aunt (second eldest) left. My grandfather whom I adored, passed when I was a teenager. This is pretty much it...the Campbells (all but those two) are gone.

I haven't flown home since my mom died 5 years ago. I couldn't, now I must. My grandmother will be laid to rest near my grandfather who is on the opposite side (across some land) of my mom and uncle.

I haven't cried (oh wait here's some tears).

Feeling sad but I knew the call was coming soon. I felt it. Actually when I saw my brothers number at that hour of the evening, I knew. So now I'm preparing to leave for a few days. My boss explained I get 4 days so I will use them accordingly. I know she's at peace. I know my mom and uncle are at peace as well. I just pray I can find some peace here in the now...until we all meet again...you know?

There are really no words for how I feel....

Except to say..."My heart Aches...."

The Comforts of Home...

Sitting here in my room brings such comfort of home to me. As I look around and gaze upon all the things I find beauty in...I'm at such peace. Music playing softly in the background...Jason Mraz..."Halfway Home"....shh listen...such comfort. The soft light brings forth an ambient glow through the decorative lamp shade as the music caresses the air with such sweet melodic freedom and grace. The air filled with fragrance from candles and plug ins...Ahh the comforts of home...

Today we had an Earthquake!

This is the first time I have ever experienced an Earthquake of this magnitude ever!

I was at work when it hit. First the door shook...gradually increasing, then the floor and Oh My Goodness...the ceiling shook so hard it felt like it was going to just fall in. My legs felt so unstable as the floor beneath me moved. I grabbed my desk to level myself and immediately got my students under the table. Phones went down. No texting, no Lan Lines...nothing! That was hard on me because as you know...I have little people of my own, and not being able to reach them was...well not cool.

But....

and this is a BIG BUT...(smiles)

This morning when I posted Beauty for Ashes...

I had a Peace all about me...

And reading your comments...touched my heart...
I felt covered by His Grace...

I said a Prayer (during the quake)...and I was settled.

All was well...

Peace took hold of me...and I knew...

"It shall not come nigh my dwelling..."
Thus said the Lord...
My heart has been enlightened...

My Prayers go out to everyone around the World experiencing (Un)Natural Disasters!

Angel Connection...

I woke up extremely early this morning taking pictures of some beautiful Old Book Style Book Boxes with Angels featured on them that I picked up yesterday. I was so drawn to these boxes that I picked up several of them. I could not figure out why I was so taken in by them, but I was.

This morning after I took the pictures, I learned of my Dearest Suzy of Suzy Qu's Threadworks, Dad's passing. I also saw that she too, was drawn to similar Angel images that she included in a collage she was working on when she found out her beloved father had passed.

I am so close to Suzy, our relationship, even across countries has blossomed into one of great admiration, respect and love. I feel sorry for her Heart, as I remember when my mom went on to Glory, there was and is an ache in my heart that was/is relentless. Please pray her strength to get through these early days of loss.

I now understand why I was so drawn to these old style book boxes, with these Angel Images.

And although I know that the images are not real; I know that Angels are...and they somehow found a way to get our attention...when we had not yet realized why...

So yesterday I had a doctor's appointment for a nuclear stress test (I'm fine...smiles). Anyway, I took my boys with me as my DH was out of town. An hour after my arrival, the nurse called me back and when she saw my childen said out loud "oh no, this won't work!"

I just had to share this one with you all...

Today, we decided to take the boys to the park for a train and carousel ride. We had a wonderful time. Afterwords we stopped by Best Buy to pick up some headphones. Well whenever I go into BB, I always take a look at the printers. I have a thing for printers, especially ones that work well for my fabric photo transfers...and of course when there's a sale on inks...I'm on it.
So my DH, and boys take off to look for headphones and I head over to the printers. I approach one that reads "FREE...Artisan 710/ Regular Price $179.99." I stopped, read it again and again and again. Trying to find the catch...but there wasn't one. I immediately went to the manager and said...I'll take this printer please for "Free." She paused and wanted me to show her what I was talking about and so I did...

She read the sign and paused and then told me to wait a minute...

She went and made a few phone calls...

and 20 minutes later resurfaced and said...

"The printer is yours!"

I was "Shocked!"

I really didn't think I would get it!

But they had to honor their sign I guess,
(which by the way...she was holding onto like a hawk! I couldn't get a picture of it!)

That was fine with me though...hee hee!

She met me over at the registers...rang me up..

And...

I walked out of BB with this printer BRAND NEW!!!!

Not So Easy to Do...

Yesterday I took my boy's out to the Thrift Store. I love thrift store shopping especially for old lace curtains and nicknacks. Well on Thursday's the Thrift Store has a 25% off sale for all "card toting members" like me (a discount card), so I thought it would be a great day to check out what they had.

When we arrived there were so many cars in the parking lot I almost turned around to leave...but I didn't!

So let's take a look at what I found...Oh but wait...

In all fairness to my boys for dragging them in the store, they did find something for themselves as well. My littlest found a batman flying mobile for .99¢ and my eldest found a Pokemon character for $1.99 before the discount was added...sa-weet)

Well as for me...I have always wanted to try my hand at re-vamping an old piece of luggage...

I was able to find one for $2.42 (before the discount)...

Makeshift Video Recording Studio

I'm super excited about this one.

Check it out!

I have been looking for a way to record my "how to videos" in my little studio. Up until this point, I have had to set up additional tables, move around the house, adjust and re-adjust the tripod...(no fun), even move to an outside location just to get the best lighting. It was so much of a hassle that after my first batch of videos...I laid the whole thing down...just tabled the idea for a season.

Then today, after feeling a bit heavy...the Lord showed me this idea...

For my son's 9th birthday (3 years ago!) we bought him a really nice drum set. We were so excited! He wanted one so badly, ~~we,~~ I had to get it for him...

Well to ~~our~~, my surprise, he used it all of maybe two times before he wasn't interested in it any further. Bummer! I took it down and put the drum pads in the closet, leaving the frame on the side of his desk folded neatly in the corner....never looked at it again...never thought about it again...never dusted the thing...(smiles)

And Now Look!

I used my Gorilla Pod to connect my camcorder and sat the frame perfectly on my work table.

Completely adjustable (without hassle)!

Out of the way...

Great lighting...

I can stand or sit...

And by Golly...the perfect angles are achievable...without breaking a sweat!

I love working at my desk.

Here I can surf the web, blog and work on all my images digitally before collaging them.

As you can see, I have lace and fabric around me at all times...

Ohhh the allure of it all.

With a swivel of my chair, I am able to work at my sewing station.

Here I have space to spread my images out and create my collages.

Oh how I Lovvvveee these textured fabrics!

And lace...takes me to a "whole-nother" level of Happy!

These lace pieces are actually curtains.

The curtains were purchased at a local Thrift Store.

I enjoy finding, washing, coffee staining and cutting these lace curtains for use in all my collages.

Once I was turned on to Bird's Nest...it was "On!"

Under my desk, I keep my Cricut Cartridges in bins.

Love my Vintage Porcelain Dolls!

This side of my studio offers an abundance of "Eye Candy". I keep my bins stocked with Lace, Trims, Fabric Scraps and Old Antique (Broken) Jewelry.

Can never have too much lace, right?

I purchased decorated boxes that have a magnetic clasp on the front to house some of my lace.

In order to get to the lace without having to take everything down off the boxes,

I used my x-acto knife to cut the front; making a door for easy access to the lace.

When I'm done, I can close the flap and the magnetic clasp closes back up.

"Wall of Inspiration"

Once I framed my fabric photo collages in shadow boxes, I could not resist hanging them up together in a nice cluster for additional inspiration.

As you can see, I only have half of the room to work with.

Not very large, but it is very cozy for me.

I can get a lot done in my "little corner of the world..."

Have you ever felt like you needed a fresh start in your craft room or studio?

Yes? Well me too...

I decided I needed a fresh start in my Studio as the monotony was beginning to steal my fire for creating. I completely rearranged the space. I just had too. I couldn't go on another moment the way it was, and continue to loose my zeal for art.

I threw out a lot. Took items to the salvation army and gifted some things to my family. It was time for a total makeover and it was time to jumpstart my heart for art again.

Life can be so demanding....draining and well sometimes a spark is needed to get you back on track...

My spark...?

See the Beauty Around Me...

As I finished rearranging my craft space (Reveal July 15), I found myself in a beautiful and serene place. A place where I had not been in a long time.

As I sat admiring everything around me...the beauty was evident...and I was again...

~Inspired to Create~

My SMDiva's caught my eye... especially this one.

She's just so darn BEAUTIFUL.

~And~

Last night, I printed some of my favorite photos on fabric for

the inspirational allure that it has over me.

Something about vintage, photos and fabric...just such wonderful combinations.

~~~~~~~~~

As my love for everything vintage evolves, I've noticed that my love for antique cameras, vintage photos, upholstery fabrics and of course antique rhinestone jewelry has also evolved and I've developed a deeper and richer appreciation for it's beauty and history (even though unknown)...

I don't care if a piece of rhinestone jewelry is broken, or if an antique camera with those beautiful bellows works or not...it's all about the beauty of it and be transported back in time to an era where this type of exquisite beauty was the norm.

Now that my STUDIO is completed...

Everything has it's place and is within reach.

The theme for me was...

Make it Feasible...

Vacuum Cleaner!

Okay, okay I know you're thinking...

"Ah??? So What..."

Well maybe not that but....

Maybe...

"Why is she so excited about a vacuum cleaner?"

Well...so glad you thought that...

Picture this...

My studio has been all about shreds of fabric and cut threads...

They are everywhere...especially on the carpet!
So...

On my hands and knees I go...

pick it up...throw it out...start again...cleaning...

Well, my original vacuum wasn't really doing the job anymore...

in fact the HEPA filter wasn't filtering and the suction...well

there was none.

So...

On my hands and knees I go...

pick it up...throw it out...start again...cleaning...

Until...

My New Vacuum Came to reside with me...

And now the two of us well...

We are just the Happiest Pair Ever...

And guess what...

She's such a good friend to me...

that...

On my hands and knees...

I no longer have to go!

Such a Good Friend!

Memorial day I went to the thirft store for some lace curtains...

To my amazement, everything in the store was 50% off!

I found plain sheer panels with the most...
~beautiful lace strips~

in the middle and along the bottom of the panels!

There's no way to find all this lace in a fabric store...

yet alone for what I paid.

The panels cost me...are you ready for this...?

Well it's nearing the end of the school year and I have been very busy writing IEP's and taking care of end of the year work. I have not had the time to create like I want but soon I will again. I also haven't blogged much...just random thoughts like this one. Once things settle down and come to the end before summer break, I will be back on regularly again. I remember back when I was a little girl, my mom was going through some tough times. She was a single mom with three children. I must have been about 9 years old....when I told my mom...

"Mom, I know you are going through some things and I want to help you. Come to my room for some counseling and bring a penny...that's the cost for my services."

Seriously...How cute was that?
Well...

I remember the smile that came upon her face and the tears that fell down her cheeks...
as she hugged me as only she could.

And you know what?

That month...I made a lot of pennies!
(But You know it wasn't so much the pennies though...)

A White Powdery Substance was sent to several of our DC schools today in Letters!!

My son's school was one of them!!

Testing is being done to determine what the powder is.

When I arrived to pick him up the Fire Department and Police were there!

He was outside...SAFE.

Join togther with me in prayer that none of our children,

teachers or staff are in any danger due to this or any other terrorist attack.

"Father God in the Name of Jesus, Protect your children from all harm and danger. You are King of Kings and You are our Protector. We are seeking refuge in You. Send Your Angels to stand guard and continue to keep us safe."

When I created Fabric Photo Memories by Lovey the Book, I had no idea the impact it would have on my life or even that of others. I remember when I began writing this book, that I had a distinct feeling within me that I wanted to make a difference in the world, and I knew that I wanted to use this book as my venue to showcase the gifts within me. I wanted to share my love for fabric photo collages with others in a way that was unique and different. In a way that would capture the essence of beauty as I perceived it when I beheld the faces of these women of old.

Inspiration, tips, tutorials and beauty...ahh yes the beauty and strength of these women just drives my heart and hands to create. There's no gimmick. There's no hidden motives...just a love for this art. I'm memorized by the joy felt when I gaze upon a finished piece. More then a hobby...it's my passion and I'm in love with it. Writing this book allowed me the wonderful opportunity to translate my heart in my art, forever preserved within the pages of my book. If you have not had the opportunity to get yourself a copy, I implore you to please do so.
The publishing company has been simply wonderful; very professional. The printing service they use to display the richness of the colors the way I captured and envisioned them; is just brilliant.
The quality...amazing!

I have made some updates as well!

I have changed binding of the book which changes the feel of it. I loved the "magazine feel," of the initial launch of the of the book and will still sale those locally as I have bought several copies. But I am completely drawn in by this new binding that feels more like a "book" than "magazine." This new binding just solidifies the contents so eloquently; it brings tears to my eyes all over again when I gaze upon it's pages.

Truly a blessing to share my art with you all in this format.

I'm at Peace...

And Then I Knew...

I have come to make the most amazing friends in blog land! It really is a blessing to have this venue to meet like minded hearts with a passion for the Lord and Art. I have been touched by so many. I do have a confession to make though...for a time I began feeling "bad" because I was not getting as many comments per post as I had in the past. I thought "Oh No, people are getting tired of me and my art!" I truly went through that struggle for a short while. I talked to other blogging buddies and they put me back on track about this one...I began to feel better...I accepted that I may not get all the comments I want, but not to despair, I do have a great deal of people who love me and follow my blog. They may not leave comments all the time, but they are there. I felt better, I was getting back on track...

And then it happened!

My first bout with an "online racial comment."

I thought..."Oh No!!"

I was shocked at first and then I thought...

"wow, I'm so sorry that someone feels this way about me, or anyone."

I found myself pulling away from my blog....Hurt, Confused...Saddened.

Reflection was eminent for me...And this is what I thought...I don't see "race" just "hearts." "And it's a shame that there are "some" that can't see past "color lines."

So many beautiful hearts that I have met across this platform, all over the world now. I love you guys, and so race, color, creed...who cares...HEARTS are what matter to me!

Well even with all that said, I was unsure of which way to go.

I was "wounded."

Continue blogging or not... ?

I knew my art would continue..(smiles) but blogging? What should I do?

Then this happened...

I remembered how not too long ago...

My dear sweet Suzy Q from Australia sent me this beautiful handmade just for me fabric book!

And I would have been superbly blessed by this scrumptious fabric gift alone...

but she didn't stop there....

She sends me love, and encouragement through our emails regularly, and our friendship has blossomed like the most precious flower...like a priceless gem...

And that's when I knew...

Then this happened...

A few days ago...

I received a newly published book from a sweet blog land friend Marijke from the Nederland....

She wanted to send me her book for mine.

I thought how wonderfully sweet and yes let's swap!

Written in Dutch, this is the most beautiful book that I will treasure with all my heart!

And I would have been completely filled with joy by this beloved book alone...

but she didn't stop there...in addition to this beautifully illustrated book, Marijke also sent me a beautiful note, lace, tags and postcards...and that's when I knew...

And Then this happened...

Today...

I received a care package in the mail from an online "new" visitor.

She had visited another blog which was doing a write up on me and my book. She visited my blog to see for herself. She emailed me shortly after visiting and introduced herself in the email. She said my art was beautiful and that she felt compelled to bless me. She had some fabrics and old jewelry she thought I could use. She said "God wants us to be a blessing to others..."

I was excited and thought how beautiful of you to just meet me in this way and want to bless me. You know, she doesn't even have a blog of her own. She was just surfing and visiting "beautiful blogs," she told me.

Long story short, this package came...and the fabrics were gorgeous as were the lace and dollies. And I would have been totally satisfied with these fabulous pieces alone, gracious in my heart you know?

but she didn't stop there and that's when I knew...

Sandra included in her care package a beautifully framed piece of art that read "Walk by Faith." She also included an Angel pendant that read "And He shall give His Angel's charge over thee." In addition to these beautiful gifts, she included ribbon labels of inspiration; Hope, Faith, Spirit, Miracle, Gratitude and Blessed.

Now, I would have been completely satisfied with these precious gifts, humbled in my heart you know?

but she didn't stop there and that's when I knew...

Sandra wrote me a handwritten letter in blue ink.
And without revealing all of it's content's...

It said these words...

"Thanks for letting me share my blessings with you...."

"God has truly blessed you with a great talent, keep using it for His Glory...."

and if that wasn't beautiful enough...

She concluded with...

"Blessings to you Sweet Girl."

"Keep the Faith; God is watching over You."

"Love Sandra..."

And then I knew...

Sometimes I sit and wonder what brings us together. Perfect strangers yet connected somehow. What is it that draws us to one another? Heart strings connected as if we have known each other for a lifetime. Friendships that emerge from one comment that touched us to the core.

Well I can honestly reveal that I am in the final stages of finishing my first ever...

Fabric Photo Memories by Lovey Book!

I'm extremely excited and prayerful over the entire venture. It has taken me a bit longer then expected but I wanted to make sure the contents were filled with colorful pages of photos, tips and tutorials! Once completed, I will send it off for proofing and then publish it! Just wanted to give you a heads up and say thank you to everyone for your encouragement, love and support along the way.

Gifts to Share...

Just wanted to share pics of two really beautiful Birthday and Christmas Gifts from my DH.

This ring features my birthstone Garnet with two small diamonds on each side encased in White Gold.

This one was my Christmas present, but I received it today!

This ring features my birthstone Garnet with two Citrine Gemstones on either side encased in Gold.

This one was for my 40th Birthday!

Steven and I have been married almost 13 years this February and although it hasn't always been easy, we are growing and learning more about being married day by day!

Thank you DH for such beautiful and loving gifts!
I absolutely adore them both...and YOU too!!

Down Birthday Memory Lane....

Wow, 40 years and counting. God is amazing. I started thinking of my mom this morning and naturally I wanted to hear her sing Happy Birthday to me. Yes, even at 40, I miss my "mommy." I went into my photo chest and just look at what I found....don't laugh.

Birthday Tomorrow...No Snow Day!

Well here in the District, the weather man ~~promised~~, I mean predicted snow and lot's of it. Some of us were hoping for SNOW to close schools tomorrow, you know...A Snow Day!
Would have been a nice birthday present! Right?
Well...
Alas, it skipped over us...~~No Snow~~!
Well...Some Snow...but only a little!
So off to work I go!
I have an observation with my Principal tomorrow too! Wowie!

Collecting is Half the Fun!

This weekend I was able to find some really nice treasures for crafting.

One can never have too much Bling!

$18.00 later, I walked away with a large necklace and a pair of earrings.

There are so many pieces that can be cut and used in multiple Collages, I can't wait to take my wire cutters to them...Smiles!

Onto JoAnn's...where I picked up some beautiful trims.

Whenever I pick up trims and fringe from JoAnn's (especially when on sale), I fill my cart with a variety of choices. When I get to the cutting table, the employees are always taken back by the amount I have, and tend to ask what I'm making. I tell them and they want to see pictures. I show them and they are genuinely impressed with the concept of my craft. "Do you know the ladies?" "No, I just love collecting these images from the 1800's-1900's." "Wow! Look at the trim, that's our JoAnn's Trim!" Too funny! Then customers come up while I'm getting my trims cut (which takes a while...you know), and the employees make me feel like a celebrity of sorts with their kindness..."Ooh show them what you make, and she's in magazines too...."

Too funny...

It's a beautiful feeling to be so supported.

It tears easy and sewing on it is a breeze.

I really love the look of it on a collage.

And how about them Sewing Machines...

I absolutely, positively love Sewing Machines...so here's a pic of the three SMDivas, I love to use.

Something about the "oh so wonderful sewing machine," just excites my senses to create! To sew!!

I Love the look of beautiful stitches on fabric.

I have set up a little table with two machines on it, and one behind on a separate table. I can get to each machine with a swivel of my chair. The mechanical machine is strictly for layers, while the computerized ones offer better decorative stitches on less layers.
