So yesterday I had a doctor's appointment for a nuclear stress test (I'm fine...smiles). Anyway, I took my boys with me as my DH was out of town. An hour after my arrival, the nurse called me back and when she saw my childen said out loud "oh no, this won't work!"
I was like..."did she just say that out loud?" I was shocked as the lobby was filled with people...I was a bit embarrassed too, so when I got in the back with her I explained how "unprofessional" her comment was and she apologized. Well, I thought "okay cool, you're forgiven," (cause I'm in my happy place on the inside and all) and then proceeded to find out that the test would be 4 - 5 hours long and that my children would have to wait in the lobby (by themselves...?) Okay my children are 12 and 4....hmm not really old enough to sit that long by themselves but I really need this test... So.... I thought long and hard about all the people in that closed lobby (not really feelin' this but....," then I thought well "maybe I could...nah, I'll reschedule." So I turn to tell the nurse when... a woman comes up behind me (from like out of no where...) while I was speaking with the nurse and saids..."I overheard you talking and understand that your test is 5 hours long...I can watch your children for you." "What?" I said. "I can watch your children for you." At first I thought (immediately) "uh huh, uh No thank you..." and so I said "bless your heart, but no thank you." (cause I'm polite and all). But then she saids..."well look, I can watch your children for you, and here I can give you my card, so you can call me when you're finished." "(oh and you want to take my babies out of this building..? are you serious lady?)..." I'm thinking to myself and probably on my face......(as she proceeds to go in her purse for a card) "What!?" "No", "Stop", "No thank you!" (fluttered a little) I said again more sternly less polite this time, and then she said, (yeah, she was relentless) "oh no, it's okay... I work with kids, my name is..." Well, I never really caught her name as I said "No, Thank You!" as if... (I will hurt you lady if you don't...back off!) and I turned back towards the nurse...like..."What the...you know,"... turned back towards the woman again... (like literally within a split second) and I tell you no lie...she was Gone as fast as she came up behind me! I never saw her leave..."heck"...instead of "h-e- double hockey sticks," I never saw her come up behind me either! (It was so Un-Settling).

What!!??
SERIOUSLY....
Who does that?
Uh...rules #1 and #2....
"Don't talk to strangers and Don't ever go with them!!"
So...let me get this straight...
I'm going to just give my children over to you...cause you give me a home made (probably fake)...business card and you work with kids?!
Uh Huh...?
I'm a teacher and I would NEVER pull this one!
So let's see how this story could have played out...
911 call...
"I gave my kids to a stranger to watch for me and I can't find her or them..."
Police..."You just gave them to a stranger?? Are you crazy!?"
Husband call...
"Honey, I can't find the kids...I gave them...."
WHAT!!??
Seriously....I was shocked by this incident.
Made me think long and hard again...
Warnings and Signal Signs Flashing in my HEAD!!
Am I over re-acting...
I don't think so...this could have turned badly quick if I didn't know better.

When we left the doctors office, I told my boys what happened (my oldest was like...WT...?...you know) as we sat at McDonalds eating french fries....
I reminded them of rules #1 and #2...and I added...
"If someone ( a STRANGER) or even a FRIEND (and we didn't tell you we were sending them) ever saids mom or dad sent them...RUN, SCREAM, KICK, YELL!"
Cause we didn't and never will!
This is the way mommy will always see her babies...
Make sure to protect yours...
Remind them of the Rules...
School is starting soon...

Crafting in The Hive

21 Kind Words:
Geez Lovey that was very scary! I know you love your little ones too much to ever, ever let some weird person watch them for you!
I would have called the police and given them a description of this "lady" who has probably done this before. She sounds like a predator!!
Thank the Lord she didn't grab one of your babies and ran. You definitely had angels watching over you and your family Lovey!
May your weekend be blissfully uneventful sweet lady and hug your little ones for me!
Tina xo
Oh my gosh, Lovey--you sure thought quickly!! I'm so friendly that I might have thought "wow, what a blessing" or "Aren't I lucky that God sent His angels?" I might not have thought it was sinister...But, you are lucky that you were so convinced that she shouldn't take them.
Also, now I also realize why the nurse said, "This won't work!" It's because she knew it would take so long for you to have those tests! (Still she should have said it to you privately.)
I'm just glad your precious sons are safe and sound!!
Love,
Cindy
WOW yeah you know the mamma bear comes out right away!!!
Hope you are able to get your tests done and keep kids away from stranger danger.
I have one daughter that little kids just LOVE!! I mean they always flock to her and grab her hand etc. She is so loving and kind with them, but, it never ceases to amaze me how many people just let the kids follow her around a store, no questions. She is very good with them, but still out of site???
Oh my gosh, Lovey! Too bad you didn't get her card! You could have checked her out somewhere! It probably wasn't a legitimate card either but it would have her fingerprints on it! (I read too many mysteries!) Maybe she does this ALL the time! And I don't mean her being a good samaritan and all! You should have started yelling "Stranger danger!" lol!
No, seriously...this is very upsetting to hear. I'm SO glad your "Mom alert" alarm went off. And that your children are safe and sound with you. :)
Love,
Sonya
Wow Lovey, How scary for you, good the Momma bear instinct came out.I'm not sure what my reaction would have been as since I'm from another generation when life was similar and less scary I might of thought like Cindy, good thing it wasn't me but knowing todays world I would not let them go with anyone. Thanks for the TAPs, it is very helpful and I ordered the iron and the photo transfers but i can't afford the printer right now. I have a Canon MP620, maybe you could tell me if it is good enough, and don't be afraid to say I need better, I won't be offended. Hugs and let me know, Marilou xoxo
Oh my goodness Lovey that is weird and scary. I'm glad your mommy radar was on high alert and your children are safe and sound.
Absolutely scary, Lovey. Thank God your sensors were working just fine that day. So sorry you had to go through that...... You all are safe, yes, Jesus watched over all of you and your angels surrounded you. Even more scary would have been her offering to watch them in the "lobby" while you disappeared to take the test. Glad you were able to teach them the lessons of life from the "doctors" office. Hugs, M
Good for you! What a strange incident, and maybe you should have called the police!! Your children are the most important thing and you were wise to not let anything happen that shouldn't. I hope others think like you for the sake of their own children!!
Thank God He put that wisdom in your heart!!
Blessings, Doni
Wow. I've only been a nurse for a few years, but that's a first for me! I've never heard that kind of situation. How scary! I'm with you! Who does that? And what a wise thing to immediately discuss the situation with your children. I understood your concern... the Mom in me came out. That lady is lucky you didn't deck her! You're an awesome protective Mom!!!
That is a VERY strange story Lovey...very, very strange. I can imagine how unsettling that felt. You know my dh and I have talked about it before, that sometimes EVERYTHING that comes our way is NOT from God. I do think this was one of those times.
And, btw...I love that picture at the end. That is just the sweetest!! Love you =)
Lovey you sure did think quickly. I can imagine thinking that I would want to help someone watch their children, but in this day and age I could never offer it with strangers. We live in such an unsettling world and no one can ever be too careful.
This is a great story and a big reminders for parents to always be on guard. Predators come in all shapes and sizes.
Yeeeah..freaky is not strong enough to describe this! Geesh! So glad {and not surprized at all} tht you were thinking on your feet :-) Lesson to the Doctor's office: Let people know the timeframes of tests, etc. proir to them coming in!
Oh my! Wanting to hang onto the hope that there are good people (albeit naive) in the world who would do that kind of favour for a stranger, I still think you made the right decision.
Thank you friends...I thought it was super creepy...so glad all went del for us all. Praying it doesn't happen to anyone else. xo
Oooh NO Lovely, that is not good - that gave me seriouls cold shivers. I don't think she was up to any good at all. Thank goodness you kept your head! Can't, don't even want to think of what the outcome may have been!
Wow, Lovey, this was truly bizarre. Unbelievable! Good for you!
Hugs,
Diane
What a powerful post, Lovey! Thank you SO much for sharing this. Scary stuff indeed -- you are a wise and loving mom!
When will you post again ? Been looking forward to this !
Hi Lovey,
WOW this is weird. I would have been freaked out too, but you did the right thing and then explained it all to your kids. We all really have to be aware of the nutcases all around us anywhere. It's scarey for sure.
I hope you are doing okay. I had that nuclear test last March. It was a long one. All was great for me and I pray the same for you.
Hugs and blessings dear one.
Celestina Marie
This will keep me on my guard, believe me.
